Computational Design Services

As designers, our strength is in creating something new, but often times that new idea can outpace the capabilities, available staff, or tools of our teams.

That’s where Amalgam can help.

With over a decade of proven experience delivering cutting edge designs at all scales, the team here at Amalgam can help you get your ideas from the sketch page to the real world. From small scale installations to complete buildings, we know how to effectively & efficiently iterate, develop, document and deliver anything you’ve dreamed up. Here’s a few ways we can help you…

As an integrated member of your design/construction team

For large projects, tight deadlines, and complex/unique constructions we can work as an integrated member of your design/construction team. From your current project phase, we’ll join your team and help throughout the remaining phases, including CA. Helping with design iterations or streamlining the design process in the early schematic design and design development phases, helping to create drawings that clearly convey the design during construction documents and providing assistance for shop drawings and submittal review during construction administration. We know how to make that napkin sketch or shiny render into a reality.

This works best for large/complex projects like our WSU Cultural Center where the portion of your project that we’ll help with is easily-defined, or separated.

As an in-time provider for digital project infrastructure & computational design definitions.

With projects that have small budgets, or fixed requirements, we can help you by making a set of digital tools that you can deploy when needed. Working with your in-house teams current abilities and tools, we can help you to create the definitions and file structures to get your project across the finish line. From fabrication files for CNC production of your unique elements to reusable Dynamo/Grasshopper definitions for repetitive office tasks.

We’ve helped offices with small pergolas, or entire TI fit-outs, as well as a series of computational tools for repetitive design tasks like re-arranging fixed seating areas of theaters to automated layout of fabrication files into separate sheets and separate files. If your team already has a working knowledge of 3d design software and computational tools, this is the easiest; but if not we can provide the team education as well.
